The team behind the tech: Adam Lawson, Software/QA Tester

At RTS Solutions, it’s essential we have great team members on board to drive innovation and improvement to our technology. We take the Quality Assurance (QA) of our software and technology seriously, so our customers get the best service possible.

Adam Lawson is our dedicated Software and Quality Assurance Tester. He joined the RTS Solutions team in 2014. We caught up with Adam to ask him a few questions about what he enjoys about his role at RTS Solutions. He also tells us how he finds working in the rail industry overall.

What are your main responsibilities within your role as Software/QA Tester?

“The focus of my role as a Software and QA Tester is to ensure the software created is fit for purpose for the end user. I do this by functional and non-functional testing, which means creating and executing test cases under varying circumstances. From these tests, I document and evaluate the results to move forward.

The testing stages of detecting, reporting, and tracking spots any bugs, defects, and glitches that need to be fixed. It’s my responsibility to reduce any potential issues for the end user by continuously testing. With a reputation as one of the UK’s leading rail industry technology service providers, it’s a job I take seriously.”

How long have you worked in the rail industry?

“I have been working in Software and Quality Assurance for over 11 years, and within that time I’ve worked in the rail industry for 9 years. I first started my career in QA Testing with the tour operator Thomas Cook, testing document systems.

In 2014, I joined the RTS Solutions team to support their goal of creating tailored digital solutions for the rail industry. It opened my eyes to the different challenges and digitalisation technology needed compared to other industries I’d worked in before.”

What is the best part about being in the RTS Solutions team?

“In the RTS team, I get to work with great people who are focused on innovation and technology. Between them, there’s decades of knowledge and expertise being used to improve the rail industry. It’s also interesting to be a part of and witness how the applications grow into a quality product.”

What is your favourite part of your role?

“It’s rewarding seeing how the application of the RTS Solutions technology is making a difference. I’m also continuously learning new skills, with regular technological advancements and information gathered from testing. The work I do directly influences the experience customers receive, so I strive to make every test as thorough as possible.”

What draws you to the world of software and technology for the rail industry?

“Both parts of my role are constantly evolving – the software itself and the rail industry. There’s never a dull moment and there’s always something new to learn. This need for regular innovation keeps me on my toes!”
